September 2019: Over 1,150 high school students from 16 different high schools from across the UP attended! The students were given the chance to operate or experience a variety of forestry equipment, cranes, semi-trucks, bulldozers and bucket trucks! They also had a chance to weld, climb utility poles, break-up concrete, and use a variety of very realistic simulators. First responder activities and employment specialists were also available to students!
The student survey taken after the event resulted in the following findings:
- 48% discovered a career they want to learn more about.
- 33% learned more about a career they are familiar with, and now they are sure it’s a great choice.
- 22% plan to pursue an apprenticeship.
- 13% want to learn more about the Michigan Army National Guard.
We hope this great experience will become an annual event!
